New York’s northern exposure
Fashion is a testament of modern-day traditions. Through textiles, it has transcended time and has been a symbolic part of ancient history, richness of culture and representation of a people.

Woven from the mountains of Lubuagan, Kalinga, young, ready-to-wear brand Bagoyan (they just celebrated their fifth year) with heritage on its sleeve, has ascended and finally landed on international shores -- straight to the runways of New York Fashion Week.
On 8 February, the captivating artistry of Kalinga weaves paraded the runway in contemporary pieces for men and women. The collection, named “Bagoyan Rising,” was a celebration of resilience, heritage and evolution.

Bagoyan designer and owner Jasmine Baac is one of the unsung heroes of the North.

The design narrative told a story of transformation — how our cultural tradition in the countryside had been elevated into modern creations and made its way to one of the fashion capitals of the world through FilipinNXT, a recognized platform considered as the official NYFW of the Philippines (other participating brands include Tagpi, Edited Limited X Adante Layesa and Bessie Besana).
Each piece was a classic made new through up-to-date silhouettes, styles and even coloration. Weaves were all over the eye-catching 15 pieces collection as seen on well thought of details, the play on fabrication and noteworthy innovation.
