The highly anticipated second edition of a popular TV series has been scrapped after the network’s latest project, starring its prized love team, unexpectedly tanked.
The series’ poor ratings shocked many, with audiences seemingly losing interest in the once-popular duo. Some speculate the lackluster material may be to blame for the series’ cold reception.
Following this setback, the network plans to pair the love team with different celebrities to gauge their chemistry with other artists.
The male actor is slated to work with a box office and award-winning actress who is currently single. However, the network is having difficulty finding a new partner for the female actress because she reportedly has an attitude.
In Philippine politics, “epal” typically refers to politicians and government officials who are attention seekers and credit grabbers, as in “thick-skinned.”
The term has become synonymous with officials who habitually attach their names and faces to tax-funded projects. This practice is especially common among politicians from powerful political clans.
As the election approaches, the practice of credit-grabbing becomes more rampant.
One of the political couples in Metro Manila who are running for elective posts sees nothing wrong with the practice and has splashed their faces on every conceivable project where kickbacks are drawn from. In fact, basketball courts, multi-purpose halls, ambulances, and other government-funded projects are all painted in pink with their initials.
The couple, however, insists their initials are not meant for self-promotion but as evidence of their work since their constituents demand accomplishments. For them, these are mere “resibo” (receipts), not self-promotion or to instill a sense of “utang na loob” (debt of gratitude) in their constituents.
Politicians and government officials should stop placing their names and images on government projects as if they were personally funding them, when in reality, these projects are paid for with the public’s hard-earned money.
