Morong, Bataan — The Aboitiz Power subsidiary, GNPower Dinginin (GNPD), has announced a five-year extension of its support for a pawikan hatchery in this town, reinforcing its commitment to marine conservation.
The announcement was made Friday afternoon during the Pawikan Hatchlings Releasing Ceremony at Sitio Fuerte, Barangay Poblacion.
According to Joseph Mendoza, Reputation and Stakeholder Manager at GNPD, 192 hatchlings were released that day, adding to the already large number of baby sea turtles that the Sagip Pawikan Hatchery has successfully nurtured and released.
Mendoza highlighted that GNPD has been a longtime supporter of the hatchery, which has successfully gathered and hatched 15,978 eggs as of 20 February 2025.
He also reported that the hatchery’s mortality count stands at 404, reflecting a remarkable success rate of 97.53% in hatchling survival.
"There are still 46 remaining nests, with 4,595 eggs. I would like to note that the total number of eggs collected is 20,977 from September 11 last year up to February 20 of this year," Mendoza stated.
He confirmed that GNPD’s support will continue from 2026 to 2031, through the #SagiPaWeCan program, an initiative spearheaded by Aboitiz Power’s subsidiary.
