Manila’s city-owned university, which houses some 18,692 students, will now each receive P2,000 representing their two-month cash assistance or baon from the city government after Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna ordered its release.

The amount represents the P1,000 monthly financial assistance extended by the city to university students and covers November and December 2024.

“This small help is proof of our full support for our students to help them and enable them to finish college,” Lacuna said.

Of the total number of student beneficiaries, Lacuna said that 8,200 are from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Manila (PLM) who can now withdraw the money through their debit card accounts.

Meantime, Universidad de Manila (UdM) president Dr. Felma Carlos-Tria said that at UdM, a total of 10,492 students will also soon receive the monthly financial assistance from the city as the payout processes are underway.

Tria said that unlike PLM, whose allowance is directly deposited, UdM students’ allowances are released through personal payouts, the dates for which are being scheduled.
