Young visionaries aiming to create real-world impact now have a chance to bring their ideas to life. The International Baccalaureate (IB) has officially opened applications for the Global Youth Action Fund 2025, inviting students aged 12 to 19 to submit projects that address pressing social issues and positively transform their communities.

Now in its third year, the Global Youth Action Fund provides young leaders with financial support and recognition for their innovative solutions. Open to students worldwide—whether enrolled in an IB World School or any other secondary school—the initiative fosters independent learning and leadership development among the next generation of changemakers.

Empowering youth, driving change

The 2024 cycle saw 83 projects from 26 countries, representing over 240 students who tackled challenges spanning sustainability, equity, and social justice. This year, IB continues its mission of empowering students to take charge of global challenges.

“We are excited to invite students from schools around the world to bring their innovative ideas and changemaking projects to the Global Youth Action Fund,” said Olli-Pekka Heinonen, director general of the IB. “The IB understands the importance of supporting young people’s efforts to tackle the world’s evolving challenges. We hope this initiative will inspire and empower them to create the change we all want to see.”

Selection criteria and grant support

Each project submission must align with one of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will be evaluated based on:

- Impact – The project’s potential to create meaningful, measurable change.

- Development stage – Preference will be given to projects that have moved beyond the idea stage and show potential for scaling.

- Collaboration – Initiatives that engage or mobilize more young people will be prioritized.

- School support – A teacher recommendation is required to endorse the project and the student’s leadership.

Successful applicants will receive up to $3,000 in grant funding, depending on the project’s needs, to develop or scale their initiatives.

A pathway to global recognition

The Global Youth Action Fund is part of the IB’s Festival of Hope, a movement designed to amplify youth voices and drive action on critical global issues. By participating, students gain not only funding but also access to a global platform that celebrates and shares their impact.

How to apply

Applications are open from 3 to 28 February 2025. Students and student groups interested in applying can find full details on the IB website.

For young changemakers ready to make a difference, the Global Youth Action Fund 2025 offers the resources, support, and recognition to turn their ideas into action.
