Over two decades after Buffy the Vampire Slayer wrapped its seven-season run, the beloved supernatural drama is now reportedly in the works for a revival with a new chapter in the franchise.
The upcoming show, produced by Buffy the Vampire Slayer studio 20th Television and Searchlight TV, will introduce a new slayer while maintaining ties to the original legacy. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao, a longtime Buffy fan, is set to direct the pilot, which will be written by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (Poker Face).
Sarah Michelle Gellar is in final negotiations to return, while also serving as an executive producer alongside Gail Berman. Other executive producers include Fran and Kaz Kuzui through Suite B, and Dolly Parton, via Sandollar, the company that originally co-produced Buffy.
Notably absent from the creative team is Joss Whedon, Buffy's original creator and showrunner, who led the series through its seven-season run.
The untitled project marks a major revival of the Buffy franchise, promising a fresh perspective while staying true to its supernatural roots.
