Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) chairman Alfred Ty shares TMP’s great performance in 2024, maintaining its position as the top automaker in terms of sales, during TMP’s Media Thanksgiving Party at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in BGC, Taguig City.
Out of the 474,000 units sold by the industry last year, 218,019 units were sold by Toyota Motor Philippines. This accounts for an astounding 45 percent of the country’s automobile market — making Toyota the top-selling brand in the country. Lexus, its luxury division, also hits a new record. These achievements reinforce its position as the country’s leading automotive brand.
Ty emphasizes that TMP’s growth also benefits the Philippine economy. More sales mean more jobs — 69,000 Filipinos find employment in 2024 through TMP’s operations. The company generates 35 billion pesos in government income and 1 billion US dollars in exports.
The Philippines continues to rank in Toyota’s top 10 markets worldwide, a sign of the increasing demand for vehicles in the country. Ty thinks that as car ownership rises, so do opportunities for local manufacturing, which can lead to a stronger automotive sector towards nation-building.
TMP president Masando Hashimoto also addresses the audience, expressing gratitude to the media and partners for their unwavering support throughout 2024. He emphasizes Toyota’s commitment to mobility for all, ensuring that Toyota Motor Philippines’s vehicles and services provide Filipinos with convenient and reliable transportation solutions.
Hashimoto highlights their most ambitious launch of the next-generation Toyota Tamaraw, a modern reinvention of TMP’s iconic utility vehicle with additional conversions and services catering to any and all customers. The Toyota Tamaraw is also in line with the company’s thrust in promoting accessibility to vehicle acquisition, including 10 percent down payment, trade-in options and periodic maintenance promotions.
He also mentions the Corolla Cross H2 hydrogen concept, which was showcased to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. last October in their efforts to promote electrification. This move is consistent with Toyota’s push towards sustainable mobility solutions and a more environmentally friendly future.
Additionally, TMP showcases other hybrid models in December, reflecting the company’s drive to expand its electrified lineup in the country. Hashimoto reiterates that Toyota is committed to making hybrid and electrified vehicles a mainstream choice for Filipino consumers.
Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) remains an integral and exciting part of Toyota’s vision. The TGR Philippine Cup and GT Cup races allow both professional racers and enthusiasts to experience the thrill of motorsports firsthand.
TMP aims to make motorsports more accessible in 2025. Plans include collaborations with other brands and potential joint events at major racing circuits, reinforcing Toyota’s vision of positioning the Philippines as a hub for motorsports enthusiasts.
Both TMP’s chairman Alfred Ty and president Masando Hashimoto echo their optimism for 2025, emphasizing Toyota’s commitment to innovation, economic growth, and stronger community engagement.
“Tara na, magsama-sama tayo sa byahe sa 2025. Maraming Salamat po,” Hashimoto said.
