Four offshore vessels conduct resupply missions, aid fishermen in Palawan

‘Squid Game’ it is not When it comes to the maritime dispute involving China and the Philippines, this photo taken on 15 February 2024 of a Filipino fisherman drying squid on their fishing boat while a Chinese coast guard ship monitors near the China-controlled Scarborough Shoal lays out the collective hope that ‘dangerous’ maneuvers such as attempting to block a Filipino vessel dropping supplies to fishermen at a reef off the Southeast Asian nation’s coast be avoided.

Four Multi-Mission Offshore Vessels (MMOVs) conducted resupply missions for Filipino fishermen in two areas of Palawan last Friday, the Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) said.

The BRP Datu Tamblot (MMOV 3005) and BRP Datu Romapenet (MMOV 3007) resupplied a total of eight FFB mother boats from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM in the vicinity of Guntao Island, El Nido, Palawan.

Meanwhile, the BRP Datu Pagbuaya (MMOV 3003) and BRP Datu Bankaw (MMOV 3004) resupplied six FFB mother boats from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM near Bancalan Island, Balabac, Palawan.

After completing the resupply mission, the BRP Datu Pagbuaya and BRP Datu Bankaw proceeded to the Port of Balabac to retrieve 32 fishermen stranded when their vessel, FFB "Andrian Sarah," ran aground and broke in half at Onok Island in Balabac province on Jan. 28.

The two MMOVs will transport the stranded fishermen back to their homeport at the Carminati Fish Port in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro.
