The Department of Agriculture (DA) and GCash, the country’s leading mobile wallet app, have signed an agreement to improve the efficiency of indemnity payments to insured farmers.

On 24 January, DA, through Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) President Atty. Jovy C. Bernabe, signed a contract with G-Xchange, Inc., the company behind GCash, represented by its President and CEO, Oscar Enrico Reyes Jr., at GCash Headquarters in Taguig City.

The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) formalizes their partnership to streamline the payout system, empower farmers financially, and promote financial inclusion in rural areas.

Bernabe said the agreement reflects their shared goal of empowering the agricultural sector through innovation, digitalization, and process efficiency.

In a statement Sunday, DA said the contract includes the introduction of GCash’s Funds Disbursement Service, which will allow indemnity payments to be deposited directly into farmers’ GCash wallet accounts in real-time.

The partnership aims to introduce farmers to the digital ecosystem, enabling them to save, invest, and access microfinancing tools for resilience and financial growth.

“In line with the government’s financial inclusion agenda, this initiative provides farmers with easy access to financial tools and services, even in remote areas. It aims to uplift agricultural communities and ensure resilience, inclusivity, and innovation for farmers nationwide,” DA said.
