ZAMBOANGA CITY — The military seized 21 high-powered firearms from local political leaders and candidates during a Political Candidates’ Forum held in Datu Saudi Ampatuan in Maguindanao del Sur province.
Col. Edgar L. Catu, commander of the 601st Brigade, said yesterday they were turned over to the military during a Political Candidates’ Forum held in Barangay Kabengi, Datu Saudi Ampatuan on Tuesday afternoon.
Catu said the 21 weapons were owned by local leaders and local candidates from the towns of Ampatuan, Datu Abdulla Sangki, Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Datu Unsay, Datu Hoffer and Shariff Aguak in Maguindanao del Sur.
“The purpose of their surrender of firearms was to show their commitment and support to making the upcoming 2025 National and Local Elections and BARMM Parliamentary Elections safe and peaceful and to comply with the Small Arms and Light Weapons Management Program,” Catu explained.
