PARIS, France (AFP) — Olympic 400-meter women’s hurdles bronze medalist and world champion Femke Bol said on Tuesday she will miss this season’s indoor individual events, apart from the European Championships, to prioritize her personal life.
Bol, 24, also won a gold medal in the 4x400m mixed relay and silver in the 4x400m women’s relay in the Paris Games last summer but missed out on victory in her preferred event.
“I’m training hard and preparing myself for another successful year on the track, but I also felt that I needed a bit more time away from competing,” Bol said on Instagram.
“Therefore I have decided to not race individually this indoor season.”
“It gives me the opportunity to have some more time processing everything that has happened and prioritize more things outside of the sports that are important to me,” she added.
Bol’s only indoor race this year is set to be in her home country at the European Indoor Championships held between 6 to 9 March.
“However, I cannot and do not want to miss a chance to compete at a home championship!!!” she said without mentioning the world indoors in Nanjing, China held between 21 to 23 March.
“So I will be racing in Apeldoorn at the European Indoor Championships in the relays and lucky enough it’s the first time there’s also a mixed relay!” she added.
