Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has solidified its reputation as a leader in digital transformation in the energy sector after its Powertech Innovation and eXperience Lab (PIXL) earned the prestigious Best in Future of Work distinction at the International Data Corporation (IDC) Future Enterprise Awards.
The recognition highlights PIXL as a groundbreaking digital twin laboratory that utilizes real-world data to revolutionize training, education, and innovation in the energy sector.
Meralco’s award-winning initiative, “Future-proofing the Utility Operations with PIXL,” showcases how the cutting-edge facility is redefining utility operations while contributing to the advancement of the Philippines’ energy landscape.
Equipped with advanced tools including 10 short-throw high-definition projectors, a 360-degree projection wall, LED lighting systems, and extended reality devices such as Microsoft HoloLens and Oculus VR headsets, PIXL offers a truly immersive and state-of-the-art experience.
“Meralco is a true trailblazer in digital transformation. Few companies in the Philippines have embraced VR and digital twin technologies as boldly as Meralco. Beyond its novelty, PIXL demonstrates how technology can enhance efficiency and accelerate innovation by empowering talent,” IDC Asia/Pacific Research Director Melvie Espejo said.
PIXL is designed to propel the Philippine energy sector toward achieving the country’s smart grid vision by 2040. It serves as a multi-functional hub for technology scanning, proof of concept, prototype development, incident resolution simulations, extended reality previews, and remote learning.
