TACLOBAN CITY — At least 32 people were injured and six families totally lost their houses in the magnitude 5.8 earthquake that hit Southern Leyte early morning Thursday, 23 January.

The initial report from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council released on Friday evening shows at least 342 houses partially damaged affecting 1,207 individuals.

Damaged houses were reported in the towns of Liloan, Padre Burgos, Pintuyan, Saint Bernard, and San Francisco.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development regional office reported that as of Friday evening, it has released 163 family food packs and 120 bottles of water worth P165,139.92 in the municipalities of Liloan and San Francisco, the two most badly affected towns.

The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) regional office, together with concerned government agencies, conducted an aerial assessment to determine the extent of the damage.

The OCD 8 also conducted a structural assessment of various government infrastructures and found various degree of damage in 3 structures. These include roads, government offices, schools, health facilities and bridges.

The OCD and the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council have yet to determine the exact amount of damages.
