World No. 3 amateur Rianne Malixi concluded her shortened stint after missing the cut in the Smart Infinity Philippine Open with a closing two-over-par 72 at the Masters course of the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club in Carmona, Cavite on Friday.

But the 17-year-old owner of two United States Golfers Association titles has nothing to be ashamed of as she outshone some of the best Filipino golfers in the prestigious event that is making a return after a five-year lull.

“It was a great experience for me,” said Malixi, the only female in the field.

“Unfortunately, I missed the cut. But it’s a good learning curve for me, especially with the Asia Pacific tournament coming up next month and two more major events.”

She said she would do it again if given the chance.

Malixi carded two birdies against four bogeys, improving by three strokes from her opening round. She finished with a total of 147, just five shots shy of making the cut, but was in great company like reigning PGT Order of Merit champion Tony Lascuña, tour winners Jhonnel Ababa, Clyde Mondilla, Reymon Jaraulla, and Albin Engino. Gabriel Manotoc, Ryan Monsalve and James Ryan Lam also finished at 7-over par.

Malixi outperformed notable players such as Angelo Que (151), Zanieboy Gialon (151), Jay Bayron (152), and top amateurs Jolo Magcalayo (149), Tristan Padilla (153) and Zeus Sara (158).
