
Camp Olivas, Pampanga — The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) has intensified its enforcement of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) gun ban, resulting in five arrests for violations of the Omnibus Election Code. The arrests were made during a series of checkpoints across Central Luzon.
The incidents occurred between 22 and 23 January 2025.
Arrests include:
- 23 January, 3:45 AM, Balagtas, Bulacan: "Mark" was apprehended at a COMELEC checkpoint after attempting to evade inspection. He was found in possession of a .38 caliber revolver with five live rounds.
- 23 January, 10:35 PM, Tarlac City: "Ver," a passenger on a motorcycle, was arrested at a checkpoint after the driver fled. A .38 caliber revolver with five live rounds was found on his person.
- 23 January, 11:30 PM, Mayantoc, Tarlac: "Duke," riding a motorcycle, was apprehended and found with a .38 caliber revolver containing five live rounds.
- 23 January, [Time Unspecified], San Fernando, Pampanga: "Elmer" was arrested at a checkpoint; a .38 caliber Colt revolver with four live rounds was found on his person.
- 22 January, [Time Unspecified], San Jose, Tarlac: "Son" was stopped for a helmet violation. A Colt MK IV .45 caliber pistol with four live rounds was discovered during the subsequent inspection.
PBGen Jean Fajardo, Regional Director of PRO3, emphasized the police force's commitment to enforcing the gun ban, stating, "These arrests serve as a warning. The PNP will not tolerate actions that threaten public safety or the integrity of our democratic processes. We are committed to ensuring a violence-free election," she said, urging public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities.
The COMELEC gun ban prohibits unauthorized firearm possession, carrying, and transport during the election period. These measures aim to prevent election-related violence and maintain public order.
