10 2025 K-Dramas to add to your watchlist

Get ready for an exciting 2025 lineup of K-dramas filled with suspense, romance, and unforgettable twists! From Kim Soo Hyun's highly anticipated return in Knock Off, where he leads the world of counterfeiting, to the intense pursuit of the Front Man's true identity in Squid Game Season 3, there's definitely something for every drama fan!

Here are some of the most anticipated Korean dramas you won’t want to miss:

1. NEWTOPIA

Set against the backdrop of a sudden zombie apocalypse, Newtopia tells the gripping story of ex-lovers Jae-Yoon (Park Jeong-Min), a soldier, and Young-Joo (Jisoo). 

Following their breakup, Young-Joo regrets her decision and sets out to reunite with Jae-Yoon. However, her quest to rekindle their love turns into a dangerous journey as she battles the undead and navigates the chaos of a crumbling world.

Newtopia is scheduled to premiere on 7 February, streaming on South Korea's Coupang Play and globally on Prime Video.

2. Friendly Rivalry

Friendly Rivalry, based on a popular webtoon, takes viewers to Chaehwa Girls’ High School, an elite institution where South Korea's top one percent of students face relentless academic competition that pushes them to their limits.

The story follows Woo Seul Gi, portrayed by Jung Soo Bin, an orphaned transfer student who becomes enmeshed in her classmates' hidden ambitions and rivalries. Opposite her is Hyeri as Yoo Jae Yi, the school’s top 0.1 percent student, whose unbroken academic dominance grants her unparalleled power and influence.

With its gripping exploration of power dynamics, trust, and ambition, Friendly Rivalry promises a captivating narrative when it premieres on 10 February.

3. Knock Off

Kim Soo Hyun is set to return to television in the highly anticipated Korean drama Knock Off, where he plays Kim Sung Joon, a character who rises from a regular office worker to become the leader of the global counterfeit industry after the 1997 Asian financial crisis. 

Directed by Park Hyun Suk, known for Uncontrollably Fond and Song of the Bandits, the drama features a talented cast including Jo Bo Ah, Yoon Mae Jyung, and Lee Jung Eun, who will appear in a special role. Knock Off is scheduled to premiere in 2025, offering a thrilling mix of drama and suspense.

4. Squid Game Season 3

Following the release of the seven-episode second season of Squid Game, fans can expect more thrilling developments in Season 3, especially as Gi-hun, the protagonist, remains unaware of the true identity of the Front Man.

The upcoming season will focus on Gi-hun's ongoing quest to uncover the Front Man's true identity. Netflix has also teased the introduction of a new character, Chul-su, who is revealed to be the boyfriend of the famous "red light, green light" doll, Young-hee. 

Squid Game Season 3 is scheduled to premiere in 2025, with Netflix confirming the release date after a three-year gap between seasons one and two. 

5. Black Salt Dragon

Based on the webtoon That Man is Black Salt Dragon by Hye Jin-yang, this show stars Mun Ka-young and Choi Hyun-wook in a story that blends anger, conflict, power plays, and romantic tension. These elements create the foundation for this intriguing romance drama. 

The narrative centers on Baek Soo-jung (Mun Ka-young) and Ban Joo-yeon (Choi Hyun-wook), who find themselves at odds when they reunite 16 years after a sour teenage encounter. Their first meeting was through an online game, which left an unpleasant memory for both. The awkwardness resurfaces as their paths cross again over a decade later — this time, in the workplace. 

The series promises a compelling exploration of unresolved tensions, emotional growth, and the complexities of relationships reignited after years apart.

6. Hyper Knife

Disney+'s upcoming Korean drama Hyper Knife stars talented actors Park Eun-bin and Sul Kyung-gu. This medical crime thriller that follows Seok (Park Eun-bin), a brilliant neurosurgeon driven by a desire for perfection, who loses his license after a conflict with his mentor. Seok secretly performs surgeries in a hidden location until his mentor (Seol Kyung-gu) seeks his help. Their reunion sparks a tense and emotional rivalry between the two doctors. The drama premieres on 19 March.

Other renowned actors such as Yoon Chan Young, who plays Seo Young Joo, a loyal supporter and guardian of Se Ok, and Park Byung Eun, who portrays Han Hyun Ho, an anesthesiologist who admires Se Ok's brilliance and assists her in performing surgeries.

7. Gwigoong

BTOB's Yook Sungjae, WJSN's Bona, and Kim Ji Hoon will star in the upcoming historical fantasy drama Gwigoong, which will explore a grudge-bearing Eight Feet Tall spirit, a female shaman, and an Imugi from Korean folklore. Yook Sungjae plays Yoon Gap, a royal inspector possessed by the Imugi spirit, while Bona portrays Yeo Ri, a granddaughter of a revered shaman with inherited powers. 

Meanwhile, Kim Ji Hoon takes on the role of King Yi Sung, striving to reform the Joseon Dynasty while confronting the malevolent spirit. The series is set to premiere in 2025 on SBS.

8. Dear X

The webtoon-based Korean drama, starring Kim Yoo Jung, Kim Young Dae, Kim Do Hoon, and Lee Yul Eum, follows the story of a successful but morally complex actress, and her tumultuous love story. 

Kim Yoo Jung stars as Baek Ah Jin, who rises to fame by using others, hiding her cruel side. Kim Young Dae plays Yoon Joon Seo, her devoted but conflicted love interest. Kim Do Hoon portrays her supporter, Kim Jae Oh, while Lee Yul Eum takes on the role of Rena, a former idol who falls into unrequited love with Yoon Joon Seo. 

The upcoming K-drama will be directed by the acclaimed Lee Eung-Bok, with Choi Ja Won as the screenwriter and Monster Union as the producer. The series is set to premiere in 2025.

9. The Manipulated

The gripping new Disney+ Korea drama The Manipulated stars Ji Chang-wook as Tae-jung, a man wrongfully accused and imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit. While striving to clear his name, Tae-jung uncovers a shocking truth: the orchestrator of his downfall is none other than Yo-han, played by Doh Kyung-soo.  

Disney+ Korea has heightened anticipation for the series with a teaser image that captures Tae-jung in an emotionally charged prison visitation scene, juxtaposed with a chilling shot of Yo-han, whose enigmatic gaze adds to the intrigue.  

In a 2025 Korean drama preview reel, fans got an early look at The Manipulated, including a powerful moment featuring Tae-jung’s mug shot and his determined proclamation, “I’m going to get out of here.”  

As the battle of wits and survival unfolds, this show promises to deliver a suspenseful narrative packed with twists and emotional depth. Stay tuned for updates on the official release date.

10. Tempest

Legendary Korean actors Jun Ji Hyun and Kang Dong Won star in the highly anticipated drama Tempest

The series follows Moon Ju (Jun Ji Hyun), a renowned diplomat and former ambassador to the United States, as she delves into uncovering the truth behind a massive, enigmatic case. She joins forces with San Ho (Kang Dong Won), a mysterious special agent of unknown nationality, whose motives remain unclear.

Adding to the drama's allure is Hollywood actor John Cho (Star Trek), who makes his Korean original series debut as the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, further raising the stakes in this high-profile international thriller.

With its gripping plot and star-studded cast, Tempest promises to be a groundbreaking addition to the Korean drama landscape.
