Jasmine Mojdeh is vying for a spot on the national team that will compete in the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games from 9 to 20 December in Thailand.
Mojdeh, 18, said she hopes to make the grade of two minutes and 14.37 seconds in the national team trials in August.
The multi-gold medalist of the Palarong Pambansa admitted it would be easier said than done despite posting a personal best of 2:14 minutes in the women’s 200-meter butterfly.
“I think although I am one second away, it’s not an easy thing to do since I suffer mental blocks. But I think I can do it after eight months,” Mojdeh said.
“I do not feel pressured because I’m happy and want to compete against stronger swimmers.”
Mojdeh’s biggest highlight last year was making it to the final of the women’s 200-m butterfly event in the World Aquatics World Cup in World Aquatics Swimming World Cup-Stop 3 in Singapore.
There, she clocked in 2:16.58 minutes but finished dead last in the eight-woman final.
Despite this, Mojdeh believes this experience will help her finally realize her dream of making it to the national team where she will join the likes of SEA Games gold medalists Chloe Isleta and Xiandi Chua.
“When I was at the junior level, I was the oldest. Now I will be the one to look up and ask for some advice,” Mojdeh said.
