The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced Thursday it is allocating P12.4 billion for modernization and upgrade works in 2025.
This includes P10.6 billion for civil works and P1.8 billion for equipment and systems upgrades, the agency said in a news release.
“These efforts align with CAAP’s mission to modernize aviation infrastructure and strengthen the country’s global competitiveness in the aviation sector,” said the CAAP in a statement.
During the pilot episode of the Department of Transportation’s radio program on Radyo Pilipinas last Wednesday, CAAP director general Captain Manuel Tamayo and deputy director general for Administration Danjun Lucas highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing airport facilities, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring a safer and more seamless travel experience for passengers.
Among CAAP’s priorities for 2025 are night-rating upgrades for Cauayan, Dipolog and Pagadian airports, allowing for safe and efficient night operations to address increasing air traffic demands.
Officials also shared that Bukidnon Airport is on track to begin operations for general aviation this year, creating a gateway for local travel and trade.
“Our main goal is to make the Philippine skies a safe place in order to demonstrate CAAP’s commitment to aviation safety,” Tamayo said during the radio program. “We want to avoid accidents and incidents as much as possible.”
These modernization efforts are projected to boost tourism and trade, enhance airport operations, and improve passenger experiences.
“In the long term, they aim to support economic growth by fostering stronger connectivity across the archipelago,” CAAP said.
