Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala extended her winning ways after beating Arianne Hartono of the Netherlands, 6-3, 6-3, in the Round of 16 of the Workday Canberra International women’s singles on Wednesday at the Canberra Tennis Centre in Australia.
The 19-year-old tennis prodigy needed only an hour and 10 minutes to beat her Dutch opponent to advance to the quarterfinals of this event that serves as a warmup for the Australian Open that will start on 9 January in Melbourne.
Prior to the match, the Rafael Nadal Academy graduate defeated Sinja Kraus of Austria, 6-2, 6-4, in the Round of 32 last Tuesday.
With the win, Eala will face home bet Taylah Preston on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Round of 16 doubles match featuring Eala and Sayaka Ishii of Japan against Elsa Jacquemot of France and Marina Stakusic of Canada has yet to be announced after getting called off last Tuesday.
