
Actor Aga Muhlach trended on social media following the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Gabi ng Parangal held on Friday night.
Muhlach, who starred in this year’s MMFF entry Uninvited alongside Nadine Lustre and veteran actress Vilma Santos, did not receive a single citation for his performance.
The film itself also failed to win any awards, receiving only a nomination for Santos in the Best Actress category.
In a statement released by MMFF spokesperson Noel Ferrer on Saturday, he affirmed the decision and the credibility of the jurors of this year's festival.
"YOU MAY AGREE OR DISAGREE WITH THEIR CHOICES …" Ferrer wrote in the statement.
"But the integrity of each and every member of the Jury since we took charge in 2016, especially on this 50th Edition of the MMFF cannot be assailed. They have exhaustively deliberated and decided on the nominees and the winners from 9 am-4:30 pm yesterday," he said.
Headed by award-winning author and film critic Nicanor Tiongson and co-chaired by Film Development Council of the Philippines chief Jose Javier Reyes, Ferrer also clarifies that there is "No cooking show" during the decision of the jurors and MMFF executive committee.
"No leaks, definitely no cooking show …Only the Jury Chair and the MMFF Executive Director knew the results, not even I or any member of the Execom," he wrote.
"Rest assured, there was due process and the judgment was fair and sound AND FINAL!!!" he added.
