At least P5 million in social pension funds have been distributed to 1,672 senior citizens in Danao City, Cebu.
Tonyson Luther Lee, assistant regional director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7), told the media that each senior citizen received a quarterly P3,000 social pension, which amounts to P1,000 per month.
"We have a strict selection and validation process for the senior citizen pension," Lee said.
The payout was initiated by the Danao City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) after the selection and validation process conducted by the CSWDO.
In addition to being at least 60 years old, beneficiaries of the DSWD Social Pension Program for Indigent Senior Citizens (SPISC) must also meet other requirements: they must be Filipino citizens and residents of the Philippines for at least six months, have no permanent source of income, receive no regular support from family or relatives, and not be receiving a pension from the Social Security System (SSS), Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), Armed Forces and Police Mutual Benefit Association, Inc., or any other insurance company.
