Jhodie Peralta won two gold medals for the Philippines in the youth women’s 55-kilogram category of the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships on Saturday at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Doha, Qatar.
Peralta ruled the snatch after lifting 84 kg and a total lift of 184 kgs.
Her clean-and-jerk of 100 kgs was just good for a silver medal.
The 15-year-old lifter submitted the same lifts in the junior division of the same weight category but only finished in fourth place.
The Philippines now has five golds, nine silvers and 10 bronzes in this competition.
Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas president Monico Puentevella said this competition is a way to gauge the comptition in the continent.
“As expected, other Asian countries like India, Vietnam etc. are catching up. So we have to do more now,” Puentevella said.
Jose Dayao III is competing in the youth and junior divisions of the men’s 67-kg category at press time.
