Less than two weeks before 2024 finally bids goodbye, American boxing man Sean Gibbons is in an upbeat mood knowing that 2025 is just around the corner.
For Gibbons, 2025 appears friendlier and less toxic than what 2024 has been.
In fact, the MP Promotions and Viva Promotions big boss didn’t hesitate in naming the guys he expects to deliver.
“Marlon Tapales, Jerwin Ancajas, Mark Magsayo, Carl Jammes Martin, Eumir Felix Marcial and Weljon Mindoro,” Gibbons told DAILY TRIBUNE.
“And many more,” he added.
While Gibbons was a bit disappointed that while those he had expected to deliver faltered, the former fighter feels 2025 would be kinder.
In fact, he has made major moves for Filipino boxers in the ratings by getting himself active in the ratings discussion.
Tapales, former unified world super-bantamweight champion, is just waiting for Naoya Inoue to vacate or get stripped before getting another chance to vie for the world crown.
Ancajas, who suffered an upset loss in a bid to win one of the world titles at bantamweight last year, is now making his climb in the super-bantam division as he is ranked higher than the ever-popular but conflicted Johnriel Casimero.
Then, there’s former world champion Mark Magsayo, who is one of top and tough guys at super-feather.
Gibbons is plotting Magsayo’s title shot in 2025.
Undefeated super-bantam contender Carl Jammes Martin is also one of Gibbons’ fair-haired boys.
Big boys Eumir Marcial and Weljon Mindoro round up the Gibbons guys and should be making their respective moves as well in the United States in 2025.
Apart from the above-mentioned boxers, Gibbons also has an interest and stake on Filipino world champions Melvin Jerusalem and Pedro Taduran, making him the undisputed leader in the negotiating table.
Gibbons is even looking at the longterm for Jerusalem and Taduran as they are sure to be a part of a triple world title fight night being targeted to take place on 4 October in 2025 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the “Thrilla in Manila” in coordination with Manny Pacquiao.
Indeed, one can’t blame him for appearing to be in a rush to begin 2025.
