Impostor dupes BJMP guards
The lawyer of a homicide suspect claimed the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) had lapses when a man posing as a court judge was allowed to slip through the Payatas Jail guards, allowing him to aattempt to extort money from his client.
The detainee is a suspect in the beheading of a security guard on Christmas Eve at a car showroom. According to the lawyer, on 2 December, BJMP guards at the said jail facility allowed a man impersonating Quezon City Regional Trial Court Judge Louie Brian Sze to meet with the client without verifying his identity.
“The lapse of the jail guards undermines the integrity of the judiciary and puts my client in a bad light,” the lawyer told the DAILY TRIBUNE.
“This must be investigated. The BJMP also has a lot of explaining to do. It’s hard to believe the impostor had no inside connections,” the lawyer added.
The impersonator’s visit, days after the suspect’s arraignment, was allegedly to extort P200,000 for the suspect’s acquittal.
Fortunately, the inmate’s relative was sharp enough to expose the impostor. She recorded their conversation and handed the recording over to the police.
