Angkas CEO and Angkasangga partylist nominee George Royeca has made an appeal before the Senate recently for the inclusion of motorcycles in the National Transport Plan.
Royeca’s plea came after a motorcycle rider testified that they are simply waiting for the passage of the Motorcycle Taxi Law. The hearing shed light on the eight-year struggle to legalize and organize the motorcycle taxi sector.
The Angkas CEO recounted the challenges he faced in establishing a legal framework for motorcycle transport.
“We need to ensure that the voice of our bikers and commuters is not just heard but recognized,” Royeca said, stressing the need for a legal structure that would protect both riders and passengers.
While the pilot study for motorcycle taxi services has concluded, Royeca stressed that this is just the beginning. He urged policymakers to use the findings as a foundation for creating effective policies that safeguard the interests of all stakeholders.
Royeca’s advocacy stems from his commitment to improving the country’s transportation landscape. Through Angkas, he has championed the cause of motorcycle operators and commuters, aiming to integrate motorcycle taxis as a legitimate form of public transport.
Angkasangga’s mission is to empower riders and push for legislative changes that prioritize safety, accessibility, and recognition.
The Senate hearing highlighted various concerns about motorcycle taxi operations, including safety issues and regulatory compliance. However, Royeca’s focus remained on the need for a comprehensive legal framework that would ensure systemic protection for riders and commuters.
