Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla assured those undergoing reformation that the government remains committed to protecting and safeguarding their rights.
"To our fellow Filipinos undergoing reformation, please know that this government is dedicated to protecting your rights. Accept this simple token of appreciation for your perseverance. I wish you all a merry and meaningful Christmas," Remulla said.
He added, "Real justice is not confined within the boundaries of law. It is extended with compassion, especially to those who have less in life."
As the holiday season approaches, the Department of Justice (DoJ) led a free legal and medical mission on 6 December, at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City, advocating the "spirit of generosity" to those in need. Over 300 women PDLs, mostly senior citizens and sickly inmates benefited from the initiative, organized by the DoJ Action Center in partnership with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Rizal-San Juan-Mandaluyong Chapter, headed by Atty. Jam Ibanez, and the Legal Aid Society of the Philippines, led by Atty. Joseph Migrino, along with volunteer paralegals from the Philippine Law School.
"As we near the end of the 18-Day Campaign against VAW, I call on everyone to stand for justice for women and recognize their vital role in nation-building. Women today are as competitive as men, and their contributions are crucial to society," Remulla emphasized.
In addition to legal services, the event provided free medical and diagnostic testing, with a team of doctors, nurses, and interns. As part of the 18-day campaign to End Violence Against Women, the women PDLs also participated in a lecture on Women's Empowerment, led by Atty. Tina de Guzman and Atty. Fofo Fernandez.
