Old Bulacan, Pampanga bridges up for rehab

PULILAN, Bulacan — The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation has started the rehabilitation of its old bridges within the provinces of Bulacan and Pampanga.

According to NLEX Corporation president Luigi Bautista, the company is currently rehabilitating the old bridges of NLEX after conducting a retrofitting of the five-kilometer old southbound and northbound Candaba Viaduct.

The company prioritized the strengthening  of the structure of the Pulilan Interchange Bridge in Bulacan, as well as the Pau Bridge in San Fernando and the Abacan Bridge in Angeles City, both in Pampanga.

President Bautista has advised motorists to tread carefully at the said bridges to give way for the rehabilitation projects.

The Abacan, Pau and Pulilan Interchange bridges are currently undergoing engineering interventions that are same as what was done at the old southbound and northbound Candaba Viaduct.

The project started with the fixing of the connection of girders and concrete slabs where the top area is currently being asphalted.

The rehabilitation aims to create structural rigidity and lessen the vibration every time a vehicle passes at the connecting area.

Fresh concrete will be poured over the degrading concrete girders, parapets, and walls of the bridges, as well as the posts.

Baustista said that this is all part of the P10-billion loan made by NLEX to China Bank for its rehabilitation project and was approved by the Toll Regulatory Board.

The project is set to be completed before this Yuletide Season vacation, to ensure a safe travel for motorists.
