5 p.m. — TNT vs NorthPort
7:30 p.m. — NLEX vs San Miguel Beer
Unbeaten NorthPort eyes to extend its sensational start for the solo lead against rebound-seeking TNT in an explosive Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup encounter today at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
The Batang Pier, who are on a three-game roll on top of the standings tied with Meralco, charge back into action at 5 p.m. before the San Miguel Beer and NLEX main feature at 7:30 p.m.
NorthPort has already equaled the number of victories it had in a forgettable Governors’ Cup campaign after a 107-103 escape over Magnolia last Wednesday.
Import Kadeem Jack has been delivering monster numbers but what keeps the Batang Pier going is the consistency shown by their local mob led by Arvin Tolentino, Joshua Munzon and Fran Yu.
NorthPort hopes to use the same effective formula to take down the Tropang Giga, who dropped their opening game last Friday.
“Number one is to be consistent and follow the game plan. Like in the Magnolia game, our defense won it for us. And the plus factor would be fastbreak points,” assistant coach Rensy Bajar said after the Batang Pier milked their solid defense by scoring off transition with 22 fastbreak points.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to carry it over going to the game against TNT.”
On the other hand, what Tropang Giga head coach Chot Reyes said before the start of the conference that the Commissioner’s Cup would be 10 times more difficult compared to what the team went through to win it all in the Governors’ Cup turned out true.
TNT got clobbered by guest team Hong Kong Eastern, 84-105, in its debut.
Now the Rondae Hollis-Jefferson-bannered Tropang Giga will have to deal with a streaking team.
Meanwhile, the reigning champions Beermen shoot for a second win in a row after a 107-104 squeaker over Phoenix last Wednesday.
The Road Warriors try to string a third straight victory to wiggle out of a two-way tie with idle Converge at 2-1 card.
