The Bureau of Customs (BoC) is set to revolutionize its operations through the integration of advanced information and communication technologies (ICT). This move is aimed at improving efficiency, security, and transparency in customs procedures.
Acting deputy commissioner for Management Information Systems and Technology Group (MISTG) Atty. Marlon Fritz B. Broto outlined the Bureau’s digitalization journey during the 32nd National Convention of the Chamber of Customs and Brokers Inc. (CCBI) last 29 November.
He disclosed that the key digital initiatives include Automatic Export Declaration System; Customs Auction Monitoring System; BoC ePay Portal, PCAG Audit Tracker; Enhanced Electronic Certificate of Payment and the BoC Cares Portal Enterprise Ticketing Solution.
These systems are scheduled for implementation this year, with the goal of full deployment and operation by the end of 2024.
BoC is also embracing artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance its risk management and fraud detection capabilities. Planning and System Development Director Ronnel Hombre highlighted the potential of AI to streamline processes, improve risk assessment, and strengthen fraud detection mechanisms.
By leveraging advanced data analytics, machine learning algorithms, and other AI-powered tools, the BoC aims to identify potential risks more effectively and respond to emerging threats with agility.
Broto expressed the Bureau’s unwavering commitment to innovation, transparency, and cooperation, adding that embracing digitalization and AI, the BoC is poised to become a world-class customs administration, facilitating trade, protecting the nation’s borders, and contributing to the country’s economic growth.
