Isabela inaugurates 2 rice processing systems

ECHAGUE, Isabela — The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech) and the local government units recently inaugurated two state-of-the-art Rice Processing System (RPS) II in this town and the town of Alicia.

The local government of Alicia celebrated the opening of a new rice processing facility equipped with a one-unit multi-stage rice mill, boasting an impressive input capacity of 2-3 tons per hour. Additionally, the facility features two units of recirculating dryers, each capable of handling 12 tons.

This development marks a significant improvement in the municipality’s ability to efficiently process rice, minimizing postharvest losses and enhancing the quality of rice produced.

Simultaneously, PHilMech, in partnership with the provincial local government unit (PLGU) of Isabela, inaugurated an advanced RPS in Ipil, Echague. This facility features a one-unit multi-stage rice mill with a 3 tons per hour capacity and five recirculating dryers, each with 12 tons capacity.

The inauguration was coupled with a ceremonial awarding of rice machinery under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund Mechanization Program.

Governor Rodito Albano III of Isabela expressed his gratitude towards this initiative. He shared that establishing this facility is a testament to advancing agricultural productivity and supporting farmers.

These rice processing systems amount to P191 million. The inauguration of these facilities is expected to bolster the rice industry in Isabela, a province known for its substantial contribution to the nation’s rice supply.

By introducing cutting-edge technology and machinery, PHilMech and local governments aim to reduce postharvest losses, improve rice quality, and increase income for local farmers.

Director III Joel V. Dator emphasized the importance of the postharvest facilities to equip farmers with the necessary tools and technology to thrive. He added that these facilities are just the beginning of a transformative journey towards a more sustainable and prosperous agricultural sector in Isabela.
