Two-time Olympic medalist Nesthy Petecio was promoted from Petty Officer Second Class to the next higher rank of Petty Officer First Class by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) last Monday during a ceremony in its headquarters at the Port Area in Manila.
PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan said during the ceremonies that the promotion was a recognition of Petecio’s efforts in the Paris Summer Games last August.
The 32-year-old boxer clinched a bronze medal in the women’s 57-kilogram event in France.
“This promotion is a recognition, not only of your Olympic triumph, but also of your unwavering dedication, discipline, and excellence as a Coast Guardian. You are an inspiration to us all, embodying the values of integrity, patriotism, and professionalism — both in the service and on the world stage,” Gavan said.
“The Philippine Coast Guard is proud to call you our own. May you serve with distinction and bring pride to our service and nation.”
Petecio has been part of the PCG since her silver medal finish in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
The Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur native expressed her gratitude to the PCG for recognizing her efforts for the country.
“I am very thankful and blessed to have been given the promotion. Thanks to PCG for recognizing my hard work as a soldier athlete,” Petecio said.
“To the whole PCG organization, thank you for the support and trust especially to Commandant Ronnie Gil Gavan and Special Service Center Commanding Officer, Capt. Jonathan Serote.”
Petecio is taking a break after her stint in Paris and is expected to return to action next year.
