The local government of Caloocan City continues its free vaccination program for the children and teenagers in the city as it stressed that different vaccines can be availed of at various health centers.
One of the free vaccines that can be given to infants is the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin vaccine, also known as the BCG vaccine, which is primarily used to prevent tuberculosis and treat bladder cancer.
Other vaccines include the Hepatitis B vaccine, Pentavalent vaccine, Oral Polio Vaccine, Inactivated Polio Vaccine, Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine, Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine, and the HPV vaccine.
The MMR vaccine is administered to infants between 9 and 12 months old, while the HPV vaccine is recommended for females aged 9 to 14 years.
In addition to the available vaccines, residents are urging Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo Malapitan to roll out flu vaccines, as they are timely given the changing weather, which triggers coughs, colds, and other similar illnesses.
A study published in the US National Library of Medicine shows that neonatal vaccines like BCG and Hepatitis B vaccines help infants trigger their protective neonatal responses.
