Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday criticized the Philippine National Police (PNP) for being "incompetent," claiming they lacked information about the alleged threats to her life.
The Vice President asserted that she had been receiving death threats, adding that the PNP’s failure to act on these threats was embarrassing.
In a press conference in Zamboanga City, Duterte expressed her dismay, calling it a "big shame" for the PNP to be unaware of threats against her.
"Nakakahiya sa buong mundo na ang Philippine National Police natin, by the way, has intelligence funds, hindi alam ang mga pangyayari sa ating bansa. Nakakahiya na meron tayong pulis na hindi nila alam ang threats sa vice president," she said.
(It's a shame that our PNP — who have intelligence funds, by the way — don't know what's happening in our country. It's embarrassing that we have police who don't know that the vice president is being threatened.)
"Huwag silang magsasalita nang ganyan kasi nagpapakita lang ng incompetence ang ating Philippine National Police," the Vice President added.
(They shouldn't speak like that because it only shows how incompetent the PNP is.)
"Dapat dyan kung ako po ay presidente, DILG Secretary, PNP Chief, ang sagot dyan ay let us sit down and investigate the alleged threats so that we will know if these are true or not."
(If I were the president, DILG secretary, or PNP chief, the solutions is to sit down and investigate the alleged threats so that we will know if these are true or not.)
Duterte also noted that she now faces three disbarment cases, including a recent complaint filed by Presidential Adviser for Poverty Alleviation Secretary Larry Gadon before the Supreme Court.
"If you can remember 2011 'yun sa sheriff, hindi pa tapos yun hanggang ngayon. Tapos isang disbarment case sa pagtatapon ng patay. Tapos isa pang disbarment case sa revenge," she said.
(If you can rememeber 2011 with the sheriff, that case hasn't concluded until now. There's also another disbarment case about tossing over a corpse, and another disbarment case out of revenge.)
The VP noted that she had not yet read the complaint so she couldn't comment on its contents. She also advised those planning to attack her to ensure their claims are well-prepared and supported by sufficient evidence.
"Advice ko sa mga tao na ito, umupo muna kayo, magplano muna kayo bago kayo bumanat para hindi nahuhuli na nagsisinungaling," she said.
(I advise these people to sit down and plan out how they're going to attack me so they won't be caught lying.)
