The new administration of the Maritime Industry Authority will embark on a transformative journey this year under a new campaign with the slogan "Charting a Clean Course, Safely Sailing Together."
New Marina Administrator Sonia Malaluan said the new mantra signifies the agency's commitment to responsible leadership and sustainable development.
"Picture an ocean map, pristine and unspoiled, with a meticulously plotted route that outlines responsible practices and environmental protection. It symbolizes the agency's dedication to steering the industry towards clean waters," a Marina statement read.
Meanwhile, "Safely Sailing Together" introduces a narrative of collective inclusivity and equity.
"From local fishermen to international traders, Marina's efforts transcend boundaries, ensuring that the benefits of responsible maritime practices reach everyone. It's a collective voyage, where every community and stakeholder have a place on board," according to Marina.
"Together, these components weave a narrative of a dynamic synergy. Marina sets forth on a journey where safe navigation meets inclusivity, charting a sustainable path for the maritime sector's future. This campaign serves as a compass, guiding the Agency and its stakeholders toward a shared vision of a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive maritime industry," it added.
Earlier, Malaluan vowed to vanquish what most seafarers and seaman's groups complain — corruption.
"I want my administration to be characterized as corrupt-free, competent and disciplined," she said.
Malaluan also acknowledged the contributions of hundreds of contract personnel, the majority of whom are delivering frontline services.
"You are all a great help, especially to the frontline services. You are part of what Marina has accomplished in the last few years. Continuously, you contribute to the achievement of MARINA's tasks, missions, and the way we deliver our services to the public," the administrator said.
"Love your job, perform it competently with integrity and professionalism. These are our core values," she added.
Malaluan, a service career official at Marina for 33 years, took over the position of Atty. Hernani Fabia after the latter resigned from his post last December.
As the new administration aims to provide efficient services and operations, Malaluan stressed that her leadership is "open and transparent," ensuring personnel that their welfare is among the agency's priorities.
Sources said that Malaluan was personally handpicked by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. after serving Marina for more than three decades.
