Carlos Yulo is still training for the 2024 Paris Olympics sans a coach.
Gymnastics Association of the Philippines Cyntia Carrion has announced that the federation is currently looking for a mentor to help Yulo in his bid to earn a podium finish in the Summer Games that will run from 26 July to 11 August.
Veteran Japanese mentor Tomoharu Sano was supposed to come to the Philippines as Yulo's coach but had to back out because of an injury.
"He (Sano) was injured and said he cannot coach Carlos Yulo now. So now he has no coach. I have to look for another one," Carrion said during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Annual Awards Night on Monday at the Diamond Hotel.
Munehiro Kugimiya, the Olympian's former coach, is handling his teammates John Ivan Cruz and Juancho Miguel Besana as well as his younger brother, Karl Eldrew.
"Eldrew and Ivan are in Japan training with coach Mune (Kugimiya)," Carrion said.
The official also mentioned that Yulo would be sent to a couple of training camps in Europe.
Carrion said that the 23-year-old gymnast has received invitations to train in England and Spain. Yulo is currently training in Manila.
"All of these countries are inviting him because they want him to win a medal," Carrion said.
Yulo is set to compete in two FIG World Cup Series legs in Baku, Azerbaijan from 7 to 10 March and in Doha, Qatar from 17 to 20 April. He will also join the 2023 Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in May.
