ZAMBOANGA CITY — The oversight committee of the Police Regional Office for Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) has convened for the first time this year to map out plans how to maintain peace and order in the region.
PRO-9 Information Officer P/Lt. Col. Helen L. Galvez said yesterday that the committees for anti-illegal drugs, enhanced-management police operations, and anti-illegal gambling met at Camp Romeo Abendan in Barangay Mercedes.
P/Col Romeo A. Espero, Jr., Deputy Regional Director for Operations and chairman of the oversight committee, presided over the meeting attended by all regional chiefs and other top officials.
Galvez said Espero emphasized to the members of the committee the importance of working towards maintaining peace and order in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
The committee gauged the effectiveness of crime prevention strategies while pointing out the best practices that units can adopt.
She said committee members also agree to re-evaluate and overhaul any ineffective or unresponsive crime prevention strategies.
This, Galvez said, is to “ensure that our approach remains dynamic and responsive to the evolving landscape of criminal activities.”
The committee also offered specific and actionable guidance in implementing search warrants to address the proliferation of loose firearms, wanted persons, and gun-for-hire groups, she said.
The committee will maintain its oversight functions, retaining the authority to commend units for their exemplary performance and, when necessary, to take action regarding underperforming commanders and chiefs of police.
Espero said that it is essential to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and dedication.
“Let us all strive for excellence and unwavering commitment to our duties,” Espero emphasized.
PRO-9 director P/Brig. Gen. Bowenn Joey M. Masauding commended the committee for the constant and tireless guidance of the field commanders of PRO9, ensuring their continuous strategic improvements to provide even greater and more effective public safety services.
