A female migrant worker sent her husband to jail yesterday after he assaulted and tore up her passport while she was about to leave the NAIA Terminal 1 via Philippine Airlines bound for Kuwait.
During the interview, the complainant, Myren Detaro Onato, a 31-year-old OFW from Roxas City, Capiz, said that her husband, Jonard Banate, a 35-year-old, likes to hurt her, especially when he is drunk, out of jealousy.
Onata added that she was surprised when her husband, Banate, arrived at the airport and suddenly grabbed her. Banate also took her cellphone and broke it into pieces. He also tore up Onata’s passport and boarding pass so she would not be able to leave the country.
Onata’s flight was scheduled at 1 p.m., and her boss expects her to return to work after her Christmas vacation.
The PNP AVSEU helped the OFW approach immigration at NAIA if she could still leave because her passport was torn. She, however, cannot use the torn passport because it is a public document and there is an associated penalty for the offender who destroys the document of the government.
Right now, they are still trying to get her luggage from the airlines as she already finished checking in before her husband arrived and tore up her passport and boarding pass.
