Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo is set to meet with his counterparts, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, respectively in separate bilateral meetings in Manila next week.
In a press briefing, DFA spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza said Manalo will have a bilateral meeting with Masurdi on 9 January to convene the Ministerial Meeting of the 7th Philippines-Indonesia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation.
The JCBC is the primary dialogue mechanism between the Philippines and Indonesia to review accomplishments on mutual collaboration initiatives, exchange views on issues of mutual interest, and consider plans for enhancing cooperation.
Daza said the two ministers are also expected to exchange views on key regional and international issues of common concern for the Philippines and Indonesia.
Last week, Malacañang announced the visit of outgoing Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on 9 to 11 January to meet with his counterpart, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The DFA declined to answer if Mary Jane Veloso's case will be discussed in the meeting.
Veloso is a Filipino on death row in Indonesia for drug trafficking charges.
In 2015, she was supposed to be executed by the firing squad, however, Widodo decided to spare her life due to a last-minute appeal from then-President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.
Meanwhile, Manalo will also meet Baerbock, who will be in Manila from 11 to 12 January.
"The visit sets off the celebrations this year of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Germany," Daza said.
"The bilateral relations between the Philippines and Germany are characterized by mutual respect, robust cooperation in trade and investment, cultural exchanges, and a shared commitment to multilateralism and the rules-based international order," she added.
Baerbock's visit to the Philippines will be the first time a German foreign minister has visited the country in over a decade.
During her visit, Daza said Baerbock will also be visiting the headquarters of the Philippine Coast Guard, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority or TESDA.
