The Bureau of Immigration has expressed gratitude to legislators in the country for backing the agency's new measure pushing for the modernization of the BI's 84-year-old statute via the BI Modernization Act.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said that the measure is gaining support from lawmakers as they also see the urgent need to modernize the Immigration bureau.
Senator Christopher "Bong" Go last week reaffirmed his support for the BI's modernization, adding that in order to address issues with the bureaucracy, there should be higher pay and more employees.
The new law guarantees income augmentation for the salaries of BI personnel in addition to revisions on visa types and fines and according to Tansingco, the decision will tremendously help workers who are trapped with low pay and will enable the organization to hire recent graduates from reputable universities to work for the government.
Tansingco said that the proposed modernization measures will also authorize the BI to utilize its income to acquire advanced tools and technologies which will enable the BI to operate more efficiently and effectively in fulfilling its vital role in national security.
