ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Armed Forces of the Philippines has boosted its operations against various threat groups in central and south central Mindanao.
Joint Task Force-Central commander Maj. Gen. Alex Rillera said yesterday that the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division has effectively diminished threats in the region.
"As we approach the final fight against insurgency, the involvement of local government units, communities, and stakeholders remains paramount," Rillera said.
He cited the unity and collective effort showcased by the 6th ID and other players in achieving peace in the region throug the surrender of threat groups and the seizure of their weapons.
Rillera said gains are being made through cooperation, determination, and a shared vision of a peaceful region.
Last year, operatives neutralized BIFF field commander alias Boy Jacket and alias Abusnaria, a BIFF sub-leader.
The group was led by Abdulrah Sapal, the alleged new overall Amir of DI-Philippines, and second-in-command Nasser Guinaid Saptullah, also known as Nasser. They took over as the leader of DI-TG, following the demise of alias Abu Turaifie.
Nasser, along with nine followers, was also killed in operation conducted by the 6th ID on the first day of December 2023. The 6th ID has conducted 38 legitimate operations resulting in the death of 57 rebels and injury to 22.
A total of 262 have surrendered, 45 were arrested, and 149 were apprehended in various operations, including those with outstanding warrants.
The military also seized 363 different types of weaponry in 2023, including confiscated firearms, and recovered 207 improvised explosive devices.
The military forces also recovered 37 enemy camps in different locations across Central and South-Central Mindanao.
