
The Department of Health on Friday recorded four more cases of stray bullet injuries and 11 cases of fireworks-related injuries including the second death due to fireworks.
According to the agency's bulletin, the second death was a 44-year-old male who expired from the same blasting incident in Ilocos Region.
To recall, DoH on Tuesday reported the first death due to firecrackers from Ilocos Region. The victim, a 38-year-old male, lit a cigarette while drinking with his peers near firecrackers in storage.
Meanwhile, among the newly confirmed SBIs was the 28-year-old female from CALABARZON who sustained a gunshot wound to her right arm while watching fireworks outside their home.
The second and third are from the Ilocos Region: a 22-year-old female who sustained a gunshot wound near her left ear after their neighbor fired a gun near their home, and her 26-year-old brother who sustained a gunshot wound on his upper right back.
The fourth is a 22-year-old male from Northern Mindanao, who sustained a gunshot wound to his right arm while celebrating with his family.
Overall, the department recorded a total of seven SBIs from 22 December 2023 to 5 January 2024 and logged 11 new cases of fireworks-related injuries ranging from 4 to 72 years old with a median age of 29.
The new cases brought the total caseload to 600, with 592 due to fireworks, one due to watusi ingestion and seven SBIs and of the total caseload, two have died while a total of 53 patients are currently in hospitals for treatment.
