PREPARATIONS for this year’s Traslacion are discussed in a press conference attended by (from left) Rev. Fr. Jonathan Mojica, parochial Nazareno secretariat head; Rev. Fr. Rufino Sescon Jr., Quiapo church parish priest; Manila Mayor Ma. Sheelah Honey Lacuna-Pangan; PCDL Arnold Thomas Ibay, District, Director, MPD; and Christine Doctor Cula, district fire marshal safety cluster. The presscon was held yesterday at Pope Benedict Building, Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila.
The local government of Manila has expressed its readiness and support for Tuesday's Traslacion event, considered the biggest catholic mecca for this year.
Lacuna conducted a meeting with concerned government authorities in connection with the slated celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene.
Particular attention was brought to the holding of the Traslacion as the highlight of the occasion since time immemorial.
Lacuna stressed the importance of polishing all plans that are already in place and have been agreed on much earlier, noting that the traditional procession had been put on hold during the pandemic and that it will be allowed again for the first time this year.
In attendance during the said meeting held in Manila City Hall were authorities from the Philippine National Police, particularly the Manila Police District headed by its Director, Col. Arnold Thomas Ibay and authorities from the Minor Basilica in Quiapo or Quiapo Church led by Fr. Jun Sescon and Fr. Jonathan Mojica, as well as the Hijos del Nazareno or those physically in charge of the procession.
Also present were representatives from the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau, Department of Public Services, Department of Engineering and Public Works, Manila Fire District, the Department of Tourism, Culture and Arts of Manila, Manila Barangay Bureau, Department the Interior and Local Government-Manila and the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, among others.
Lacuna ordered the vicinity of Quiapo cleared of vendors as the activities relative to the feast have already started.
The blessing of replicas alone was attended by hundreds of devotees and the procession itself is expected to draw millions in attendance, especially after it was disallowed for the past three years, the mayor noted.
