The directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to expedite the rehabilitation of Marawi will surely accelerate efforts of the rebuilding process of the war-torn city.
Thus said Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Adiong, chairperson of the House Ad Hoc Committee on Marawi Rehabilitation and Victims Compensation as he welcomed the President's marching orders through Administrative Order 14.
AO 14, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on 22 December, mandates some government agencies "to hasten the implementation of programs and fast-track" the infrastructure initiatives in Marawi City and other affected areas in Lanao del Sur.
This directive, focusing on the rationalization of government agency functions, is viewed as a strategic move to enhance efficiency and accelerate the rebuilding process in the beloved city,
The key departments involved are the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, the Department of Public Works and Highways, the Department of Health, the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Trade and Industry.
The said AO mandates government agencies to work closely with local government units to ensure the timely completion of projects and activities in the ravaged city.
"This directive, focusing on the rationalization of government agency functions, is viewed as a strategic move to enhance efficiency and accelerate the rebuilding process in the beloved city," Adiong said in reaction to the President's directive.
Marawi City was stormed by Islamic State-inspired homegrown terrorist, Maute, leaving homes, properties, and businesses wrecked after a five-month siege in 2017.
