West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. has awarded a contract worth P998 million to the JGC Philippines, Inc. – Hitachi Asia, Ltd. Consortium for the upgrade of six of Maynilad's Sewage Treatment Plants or STPs.
The STPs that are set to be upgraded are located in Bagbag, Congressional, Project 7, and Tatalon in Quezon City, as well as Paco in Manila.
Once completed, the project will ensure that the treated wastewater discharged by these STPs complies with the revised effluent standards of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
Maynilad is set to spend over P3 billion to upgrade 17 of its existing 22 STPs over the next five years.
The upgrade of these 17 STPs is part of Maynilad's P178-billion wastewater management spending plan from 2023 to 2046, to expand sewer coverage and manage pollution loading in bodies of water
The efforts will guarantee adherence to legal requirements while enhancing customer service and protecting the environment.

The computation took into account P1.40/cu.m. for inflation, and P6.47/cu.m. for capital spending.
Once implemented, the price adjustments will translate into an additional P4.74 per month for low-income lifeline customers, P26.61 for regular lifeline customers, P100.67 for those consuming 20 cu.m. per month, and P205.87 for those consuming 30 cu.m. per month
As of October, Maynilad has so far spent P16.653 billion — P3.191 billion for non-revenue water or NRW management, P38.32 million for expansion services, P4.121 billion for operations support programs, P4.397 billion for water sources programs, P4.255 for sewerage programs, P20.04 million for sanitation programs, and P630.09 million for customer service and information capex.
