Predatory taxis face franchise termination

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, or LTFRB, is cracking down on taxi drivers coercing people at the airport to pay overpriced fares from P9,000 to as much as P13,000.
LTFRB spokesperson Celine Pialago-Vargas on Thursday said that a show-cause order will be issued against one taxi driver and his operator in a now-viral social media post.
However, she said the LTFRB is still verifying the details before officially serving the order.
The order could lead to the seizure of the taxi unit and the driver's license. The LTFRB could also terminate the franchise of the taxi operator.
The order stemmed from the public posts of Taiwanese tourists who were reportedly charged P10,000 for a 10-minute ride from Terminal 3 to Terminal 4 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Based on a Facebook post, the tourists were presented with a price list ranging from P9,700 to P13,500 per passenger.
The cheapest destinations were bus terminals in Metro Manila, while the most expensive was NAIA Terminal 4. It was unclear, however, where the taxi would be coming from at these rates.
