Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte on Wednesday emphasized the urgent need to adapt new technologies and learning platforms and align the country's education system with these evolving demands to avoid skills mismatches and job losses.
"While we have made significant progress in utilizing educational technology, there are still challenges to overcome. One of the most pressing challenges is ensuring equitable access to technology in education. While many communities have benefitted from technology, there are still underserved populations that need to be reached," Duterte said.
"Additionally, new learning platforms are emerging ranging from low-tech options to cutting-edge technologies that disrupt traditional education models. We must adapt to these changes and ensure that all learners have equal opportunities to benefit from technology," she added.
Duterte likewise commended the efforts of governments and ministries of education in embracing digital transformations and integrating digital skills into their plans.
She said the governments and ministers of education should prioritize equitable access to technology and education.
"We must ensure that no one is left behind and that the benefits of technology reach everyone, especially the marginalized and vulnerable. Evidence-based decision-making should guide our actions. Rigorous monitoring and evaluation are essential to assess the impact of technological interventions and ensure a meaningful return on investment. Looking ahead, sustainability is key," she said.
"We must secure the gains made in technology in education and prepare for the rapidly changing technological landscape. Our strategies must be agile, forward-thinking, and focused on the well-being and success of our learners, and of course, teachers," the Vice President added.
