With the traditional "Simbang Gabi" drawing near, the Philippine National Police announced on Tuesday that it is intensifying police visibility and preventive patrol operations to the ensure safety and security of churchgoers.
PNP chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. has issued the order, according to police spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo, who added that come 15 December 2023, all leaves in the force will be suspended.
"This means that we are on full alert nationwide to make sure that we are accounted for and that we have readily available personnel for deployment," Fajardo said.
She added that as part of "Ligtas Paskuhan 2023," at least 39,000 PNP personnel would be deployed across the country for law enforcement and public 'safety operations.
"As for our coverage for 'Safe Paskuhan 2023' as of today, we have deployed 39,000 nationwide, including the places of worship, major thoroughfares, transport terminals to make sure because we expect that when December like this will also increase, doubling or even tripling the number of those who travel to the province," Fajardo said.
Aside from PNP personnel force multipliers, the Armed Forces of the Philippine and Philippine Coast Guard are set to deploy personnel in support of the anticipated influx of tourists and other persons around entertainment areas as the fast-approaching yuletide season comes.
"Of course, the figures I said do not include the augmentations coming from the AFP, PCG which normally gives us augmentation when Christmas is approaching," Fajardo said.
