The Manila International Airport Authority announced on Wednesday that the first day of electrical maintenance work for the electrical system of NAIA Terminal 3 was successful.
Airport authority said that this maintenance work is part of the improvement and upgrade of the electrical system of the said terminal under the medium-term program of the agency.
According to the MIAA, the work kicked off as planned, beginning sharply at 12:01 a.m. and wrapping up exactly at 3:00 a.m., the operation involved the necessary upgrade of main unit cables connecting Meralco and the MIAA main substations. The procedure also included the crucial task of replacing vacuum circuit breakers and protection relays at the main substation, which are integral elements of NAIA Terminal 3's comprehensive electrical infrastructure.
There were no reports of system malfunctions or failures during the three hours of maintenance work done by Meralco at the airline counter, immigration, customs, final security checkpoint, or baggage conveyor. The MIAA generator set powers the NAIA Terminal 3 facilities, preventing any delayed or canceled flights from impacting the airport's operations.
MIAA Officer-in-Charge Bryan Co expressed satisfaction at the coordinated execution of the maintenance work. He credited the successful implementation to sustained cooperation and meticulous planning with the involved parties preceding the scheduled activity.
"We find it heartening that our mission to improve and upgrade Terminal 3's electrical systems is being carried out in a calculated and well-organised manner, without any disruptions to flight schedules," Co remarked.
He further emphasized, "This level of partnership with Meralco and various stakeholders is what we need and can anticipate as we proceed with the phased power-related maintenance works until December 13."
The airport acting chief also said that there were no flight delays or cancellations during the maintenance work done at NAIA Terminal 3.
