
Mandaluyong City Mayor Ben Abalos and Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos led the celebration of the big "Pistang Daluyong" fluvial parade in Pasig River Sunday morning.
The two top local officials were joined by councilors, barangay captains and other barangay leaders as well as city executives.
The said event was held in commemoration of the 92nd anniversary of changing its name from former San Felipe, Rizal to Mandaluyong. The historic part was made through the passage of the Philippine Congress Act 3836 on 6 November 1931.
The yearly fluvial parade is one of the highlights of the celebration and passes through several city barangays namely Mabini-J. Rizal, Namayan, Vergara, Hulo, Barangka Ibaba, Barangka Ilaya and Buayang Bato. These barangays were the first to be established in the community that is situated beside Pasig River before it was even called Mandaluyong.
The said festive activity was in support of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s program "Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli."
After the fluvial parade, Mayor Abalos and his entourage proceeded to Barangay Buayang Bato to lead the ceremonial planting of several houses situated along the stretch of the Pasig River.
The program called Pintang Daluyong is also part of a commemoration wherein 74 houses were painted. It also includes a beautification project of the city.
