Former Philippine National Police chief and Health Undersecretary Camilo Cascolan passed away at the age of 59, his family confirmed Friday.

"He [Cascolan] peacefully left this world this afternoon, November 24, 2023, at 5:28 p.m., surrounded by his loving family," his son, Jiro Cascolan, said in a social media post.

"We will forever remember his unwavering dedication to his duty, his selflessness, and his love for his family. His loss leaves a void that can never be filled, but we find solace in knowing that his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched," he added.

His family did not further elaborate on the cause of the passing of the former PNP chief.

Cascolan, who stepped down as PNP chief after reaching the mandatory age of retirement of 56 in November 2021, was appointed undersecretary for the Department of Health in October last year.

The appointment letter dated 19 October 2022 was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

Prior to his appointment in the Health department, the ex-PNP chief served as Undersecretary of the Office of the President in February 2022.
